Cadet Battalion Commander

CDT Battalion Commander for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Directly responsible to the Professor of Military Science for the command, control, health, welfare, morale, discipline, safety, and retention of all enrolled MS-I, II, III, IV, and completion cadets. Provides command guidance and supervises all training, planning, and execution of battalion operations. Serves as an ambassador by representing the Terrapin Battalion on/off campus and briefs visiting dignitaries on the status on the battalion. Promotes esprit-de-corps and is responsible for implementation of the cadet mentorship and sponsorship program. Actively participates in the weekly cadre training meeting by providing feedback and lessons learned from the previous week's training.

Cadet Executive Officer

CDT Battalion Executive Officer for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Serves as the CDT Battalion Commander's principle staff officer responsible for directing and supervising staff coordination and ensuring effective and prompt staff actions. Responsible for establishing, managing, and enforcing the staff planning time line which conforms to the mission and is in accordance with the CDT Battalion Commander's guidance. Monitors the staff's discpline, morale, and supervises the integration of risk management across the entire staff for planning and execution of all operations and training events. Supervises all tasks assigned to the staff and serves as the acting CDT Battalion Commander in his/her absence. Manages the CDT Battalion Commander's Critical Information Requirements/CCIRs.

Cadet Battalion Command Sergeant Major

CDT Battalion Command Sergeant Major (CSM) for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Responsible for providing the CDT Battalion Commander with personal, professional, and technical advice on cadet (enlisted) matters and the CDT noncommissioned officer corps. Executes established policies and standards concerning cadet performance, training, appearance, and conduct. Establishes and maintains communications with subordinate cadet NCOs and other cadet enlisted personnel through CDT NCO channels. Provides counsel and guidance to CDT NCOs and administers and chairs unit selection boards for CDT enlisted personnel. Monitors and recommends actions as necessary on the morale and discpline of the CDT Battalion. Adheres to guidance and direction provided by the SMI.

Cadet Battalion S1

CDT Battalion S1 for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Responsible for monitoring and advising the CDT Battalion Commander on all personnel issues and actions to include promotions, awards, pay services, medical services, legal, medical, and contractual services. Conducts staff coordination with the Human Resource Administrator and applicable cadre members. As directed, prepares annexes and appendices to plans and orders in support of mission accomplishment and training events. Advises the CDT Battalion Commander and staff on regulations and policies which govern cadet personnel actions.

Cadet Battalion S3

CDT Battalion S3 for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Serves as the principle staff officer for all matters concerning training, plans, and operations. Responsible for preparing and supervising the execution of the training within the battalion. Prepares training guidance for the commander's approval. Identifies training requirements and ensures training is oriented on setting conditions for improving individual training proficiency levels across all MS classes. Works with the Battalion S3 in preparing, coordinating, authenticating, publishing, and distributing the command SOP, OPORDs, WARNOs, and FRAGOs throughout the chain of command. Reviews OPORDS for synchronization and completion plus ensures risks management is integrated into all training events.

Cadet Battalion S4

CDT Battalion S4 for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Responsible for all logistical operations in the areas of supply, services, transportation, and resource management in support of battalion operations and training events. Forecast supply requirements and recommends support, supply priorities, and controlled supply rates. Coordinates the requisitioning, aquisitioning, and storage of all classes of supply and equipment, and the maintenance of material records IAW applicable Army Regulations, Policies, and SOPs. Forecast service requirements to include transportation, field-feeding services, and field sanitation. Maintains visibility of assigned equipment within the battalion, executes Command Supply Discipline Program (CSDP), and advises the commander on all logistical svcs.

Cadet Recruiting and Operations Officer

CDT Battalion Recruiting and Operations Officer (ROO) for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Responsible for coordinating the battalion's overall campus recruiting program to include recruiting prospects for Army 104 (PT Only), Leader's Training Course (LTC), Accelerated Cadet Commissioning Training (ACCT). Responsible for cadet retention and progression from MS-I to MS-II and MS-II to MS-III. Coordinates directly with the Battalion Recruiting Operations Officer (ROO) and Army National Guard Liaison (LNO) on executing the Cadet Battalion Recruiting and Retention Strategy. Responsible for establishing and maintaining the Cadet ROO Committee. Supervises and leads the ROO Committees recruiting efforts.

Company Tactical Officer

Company Tactical Officer (CTO) for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Serves as the senior company Teacher, Assessor, Coach (TAC) for the battalion and supervises the PTOs employment of assigned TACs within the CDT Company. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a Quality Assurance/Quality Control system which ensures TACs accurately submit Leadership Assessment Reports in a timely fashion IAW published Leadership Development Program (LDP) standards. Responsible for ensuring Teacher, Assessor, and Coaches (TACs) fulfill assigned duties and provide responsive feedback designed to modify behaviors for achieving maximum results at LDAC. Works with c/Bn S3 and cadre to develop training plan IAW c/S3 guidance and ensures intent is understood at the lowest level.

Platoon Tactical Officer

Platoon Tactical Officer (PTO) for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Serves as the senior platoon Teacher, Assessor, Coach (TAC) for his assigned platoon. Responsible for ensuring Leadership Assessment Reports are completed IAW published Leadership Development Program (LDP) standards and submitted in a timely fashion. Responsible for ensuring Teacher, Assessor, and Coaches (TACs) provide responsive feedback designed to modify behaviors for achieving maximum results at LDAC. Works with the Company Tactical Officer (CTO), Battalion S3, and cadre to develop and execute training for the CDT Company. Coaches and Mentors all cadets on lessons and experiences from LDAC. Leads and actively participates in After Action Reviews and ensures training is safe.

Teacher, Assessor, Coach Officer

Teacher, Assessor, Coach (TAC) Officer for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion and affiliated with University of Maryland University College system. Responsible for developing and executing training for the cadet company while coaching and mentoring all cadets on lessons and experiences from Warrior Forge. Evaluates assigned cadets and ensures Leadership Assessment Reports are completed IAW published Leadership Development Program (LDP) standards and submitted in a timely fashion. Maintains daily contact with assigned cadets and is responsible for providing responsive feedback designed to modify behaviors for achieving maximum results at LDAC. Conducts PT with the battalion and serves as a model for demonstrating PT standards. Ensures PT is executed IAW with published plans and integrates risk management into all training events/activities.

Cadet Company Commander

  • Ultimately responsible for all the Company does or fails to do
  • Receives WARNO and formulates OPORD
  • Creates plan and time line for lab
  • Plans rehearsals for the operation
  • Issues OPORD to PLs no later than the Wednesday before becoming CO (with visual aids)
  • Communicates with 1SG on issues of supply and accountability
  • Issues FRAGOs to PLs, then 1SG\n- Addresses company at the beginning of lab
  • Supervises all training (without micro-managing)

Cadet Company Executive Officer

  • Second in command; assumes command and commander responsibilities in the Cadet Company Commander's absence
  • Free the company commander from routine details and passes pertinent data, information and insight to the commander
  • Ensures suspenses are met by the platoon leaders
  • Responsible for the safety and risk assessment of all company events
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the company Commander

Cadet First Sergeant

  • Writes and presents Paragraph IV (Service and Support) of the company OPORD
  • Coordinates with S-4 for all needed supplies for the week
  • Makes necessary announcements at PT and at lab
  • Responsible for gathering all accountability and sending it up the chain of command
  • Plans and runs PT
  • Holds first formation before turning it over to the CO
  • Keeps company training running according to the time line
  • Makes sure all information is disseminated to the PSGs (and that they pass it along)
  • Coordinates with the XO for transportation, medical support, and services
  • Has accountability at all times
  • Supervises NCO (PSG and SLs) support channel only

Cadet Ranger Challenge Company Commander

CDT Company Commander for the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion's Ranger Challenge Company. Responsible to the CDT Battalion Commander and Professor of Military Science for the command, control, health, welfare, morale, discipline, and safety of all Ranger Challenge personnel. Updates the Professor of Military Science, designated cadre, and CDT Battalion Commander on the training proficiency levels. Establish and maintain an effective training plan designed to aggressively train and develop Ranger Challenge personnel into a highly competitive team which will positively represent the University of Maryland, the Terrapin Battalion, and the All American Brigade.

Cadet Ranger Challenge Executive Officer

Cadet Executive Officer for the Ranger Challenge Company and representing the University of Maryland's Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion. Responsible for assisting the Ranger Challenge Company Commander in drafting and executing training plans designed to improve individual and team proficiency levels for developing a highly competitive team. Advises the commander on the integration of risk management into all training events and activities. Identifies and coordinates logistical requirements with cadre to include all supplies and services, required to safely execute training to standard and maximize available time for training. Serves as the acting commander in the commander's absence.

  • Spot checks
  • Have accountability of all personnel and equipment
  • Conduct rehearsals of pertinent operations (inspection, class presentation, first formation, etc.)
  • Enforce uniform and personal appearance on yourself and your subordinates
  • Know your role (do not step on someone's toes, do not micro-manage, do not show off for your own sake)
  • Show followership when not being evaluated
  • Team building is essential to the class and the unit
  • Take pride in your responsibilities and show integrity when doing your job
